The one thing that most stands out to me about this novel was the amazing job Martin did describing the music. I have never read something that made me want so badly to listen to the music. Believable characters, very well developed. What I got also was a fast-paced, smirky, quirky police romp more along the lines of "Thirty-Nine Steps" (The 1915 John Buchan adventure novel or 1935 Hitchcock movie adaptation). The wage economy displaces traditional farming, children abandon their language, depression sets in and suicide rates soar. As the previous two, it touches on serious issues; real people with real inner issues that needs to be addressed. Heartbroken and afraid, she and her mother were left to withstand the hardships of life under the oppressive Soviet state, an existence marked by poverty, starvation, and fear. The authors examine the biomechanics of running, including anatomy, electromyographic responses, joint kinetics, and metabolic reactions that occur in adult women.
